Support & FAQ

Everything you need to get the most out of Bloox.

About Bloox

Bloox is an audiobook player for iOS. Import books from Audible, Audiobookshelf, Google Drive, iCloud, the iOS Files app, or Wi-Fi upload, then listen with transcript-aware tools that help you keep the story straight.

How Bloox uses your Google data

If you choose to import audiobooks from Google Drive, Bloox requests read-only access to browse your folders and download the files you select. The app never modifies, deletes, or accesses any files beyond your explicit selection. Your Google credentials are managed entirely by Google’s Sign-In SDK and are never stored by the app. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does AI transcription work?
Bloox uses Apple’s on-device speech recognition to transcribe your audiobooks. All processing happens locally on your device — no audio is ever sent to a server. Transcription requires iOS 26 or later.
What is Book Chat?

Book Chat is a beta feature that lets you ask the small questions that come up while listening: who someone is, what just happened, why a place matters, or whether you missed a detail five minutes ago.

It is grounded in the transcript for the part of the book you have already heard, so it is designed to answer without jumping ahead. Book Chat is optional and asks for consent before sending your question plus relevant heard-so-far context to Bloox servers.

What does “What Did I Miss?” do?
It generates a quick AI summary of the last few minutes of your audiobook using Apple Intelligence. Tap the sparkles button in the transcription view to use it. This feature requires iOS 26 and a device with Apple Intelligence support (A17 Pro or later).
What audio formats are supported?
Bloox supports M4B (MPEG-4 Audio Book) and MP3 files. Multi-file books (one MP3 per chapter) and CUE files for chapter information are also supported.
How can I listen to my Audible books in Bloox?

Open your library, tap the import button, choose Import from Audible, choose a book from your Audible library, then tap Download & Import. Bloox shows import progress in the Library while the book is added to your device.

A few honest notes: Audible import is US-only in v1 and imports one book at a time.

If you prefer a desktop workflow, Libation remains a good free, open-source option for managing your audiobook library as standard M4B files.

Can I import from Audiobookshelf?
Yes. Bloox can connect to an Audiobookshelf server so you can browse your library, download a book, and import it into Bloox. It does not currently sync listening progress back to Audiobookshelf, so ShelfPlayer or Plappa are still better if server sync is the main thing you need.
How else can I import books?
Go to your library, tap the import button, then choose Audible, Audiobookshelf, Google Drive, iCloud, Files, or Wi-Fi upload. For Google Drive, sign in with your Google account, browse or search for audiobook files, and select the files you want. Bloox only accesses the Google Drive files you explicitly choose.
Is my data private?
Bloox has no ads, no subscription, and no Bloox account. Transcription and “What Did I Miss?” summaries run on-device. Book Chat is optional and asks before sending your question plus relevant heard-so-far context to Bloox servers. Audible import runs on your device and requires no Bloox account. Analytics can be disabled in Settings. See our Privacy Policy for the formal version.
The sleep timer screen is very dark — is that intentional?
Yes! The sleep timer uses a low-brightness dark design specifically to be gentle on your eyes when listening at bedtime.
How should I name my MP3 files so they play in the right order?

Bloox uses smart natural sorting and automatic pattern detection to play your files in the correct order. It also checks for gaps in your file sequence (e.g., a missing chapter 3 between chapters 2 and 4) and will warn you if something looks off.

Here are the naming formats Bloox recognises, listed from most recommended to also supported:

  1. Leading number (recommended) — prefix each file with a zero-padded number:
    01 - Chapter One.mp3, 02 - Chapter Two.mp3
  2. “Chapter N” / “Part N” / “Track N” — include the keyword anywhere in the name:
My Book - Chapter 1.mp3, My Book - Chapter 2.mp3
  3. Delimited middle number — a number between dash separators, common in box-set rips:
    The Cornish Detective - 001 - Opening Credits.mp3
  4. N of Total — include the part number and total count:
    Trust No One - 01 of 95 - Opening Credits.mp3
  5. Multi-disc (CD rips) — for audiobooks that span several CDs:
    My Book - CD01 - 01.mp3, My Book - CD01 - 02.mp3
Also supports Disc 1 Track 01.mp3, 1-01.mp3, and 1.01.mp3 styles.
  6. Part X-Y / Part X/Y — the part number and a constant total separated by a dash or slash:
    SGSC1-6 Stuart Gibbs - Space Case.mp3
  7. Trailing number — a number at the end of the filename:
My Great Book 01.mp3, My Great Book 02.mp3

Tip: Zero-pad your numbers (use 01, 02 … 10 instead of 1, 2 … 10) to avoid sorting surprises.
